All Things Old

I don’t know why but I have always been fascinated with anything old!!

On a recent trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin I decided that I was going to stop to take a few pictures of some churches that I see every time I pass by there and have never gotten the chance to stop to see.  Some are taken from my Iphone and some are taken with my Nikon 5200 camera.

I think the quality of the 2 are pretty close!

I hear the chime of this old tower clock as it strikes at the top of every hour.  Which then brings me back to my own childhood when the local church bells chimed on the hour. I can even feel the summer breeze blowing and the warm sun shining on my face!

Beyond this window I picture a classroom full of Sunday School children as they learn about Jesus and how he died for us so we could be forgiven.  I remembered hearing of Jesus for the first time in Sunday School at the Methodist Church.

As I stand in the doorway to this old church that is so full of memories, I see the people entering and the children running in and out giggling.  It brings me back to the days when I too ran in and out, giggling while chasing friends in a game of tag.

I love the architecture of this old church!!

I intended on taking a few pictures of a couple other churches but the town is under construction and I just couldn’t seem to navigate my way over to them.

Another place that fascinates me is the cemetery.  I’m not morbid and I hate death but I love looking around the cemetery at all of the old stones and buildings.  Every building, every marker, every tree has a story.

I drive through and can’t help but to think of the person that sat on this bench and had an afternoon talk with their loved one that they miss so much!  Or the tree behind it that the mother who lost her son sits against as she thinks of all of the memories that she has had with her child and all of the memories that they will miss together!

Windmill Estates, which will soon be complete and ready for people to purchase for their final resting place.  I think of the child that will enter that door and sadly place flowers on his father’s grave as he sheds a single tear likes he’s done so many times before.

Everything has a story.  Look around you and listen to that story.  You will be surprised at what you learn, what you remember and how it changes the way you look at the world around you!

As always, thanks for reading my blog and I hope today has the very best you!!

Happy Birthday!!

There is a lady that I’ve known since before I was born. Most people knew her as Shirley (Shirl) for short, other little people knew her by Nana but I knew her by the name of “Mom”. She was an amazing woman of courage and strength! My brothers and sister knew her a little different than I did but I know that they agree that she was the best!!
I am the baby of the family (it took my parents 5 tries to finally get it right), my sister is the oldest (21 years older than me), with the 3 boys in between. I know what you are thinking and no, I was not an accident haha
My siblings knew my mother as a woman that would cook for them, keep their house clean, take them for walks, play games with them and so much more. My memories of her are vague when I was very young but some that I do remember are doctors visits, home health visits, watching Johnnie Carson while eating way too much popcorn, sleeping on the floor next to her chair when my dad was midnight shift, helping her to eat and wheelchair rides. See, my mom became sick with Multiple Sclerosis when I was very young so the things that other kids take for granted, I could only dream about having!
There is something that you need to know about my mother though, she never once in the 21 years that I had her, complained about anything. Not her situation or how it wasn’t fair or that she was dealt a shitty hand of cards. She was always happy!! I don’t ever remember her uttering one unkind word to anyone!! (And let me tell you, I deserved unkind words….I was a handful)
She took the life that she was given and made the very best of every minute!!
My mom passed away on September 27, 1992 at the age of 64. I miss her more and more every day. As I get older I wish she was here to see what I’ve become, to be a Nana to my children and to give me advice about life. I would do anything to have her for just one more day. But that’s not how life works and I’m thankful for the time that I did have her.
Today would be her 88th birthday so I wanted to write a memorial to her to honor her and the person she was!! Happy Birthday in Heaven mom!!! I love and miss you so much!!!

The only picture I can find at the moment. I can’t get to the box of pics!!

As always, thanks for reading my blog and I hope today has a good you!!

How many times have we all thought that we were too old to start something new?  Too old to dream a new dream? Too old to leave a job we hate and search for a new one that we would love?  I still have those thoughts sometimes.  What am I thinking? I’m too old to start something new!  What if I don’t succeed? I wish I would have done this when I was younger.  If you are honest, you will say ME!!

I just finished a book that has changed the way I’ve been thinking.  The name of the book is “Start.” by Jon Acuff.  If you are a reader then I recommend that you pick this book up!  If you are not a reader then download the audible book.  jon

If you’re 45 and looking for a career shift after realizing you don’t love what you do, you’re back in your 20’s.  It’s time to start!!  You don’t have to have everything figured out or a big elaborate plan in place. YOU JUST NEED TO START!! The starting line is the only line you completely control.  Regretting that you didn’t start earlier is a great distraction from moving on your dream today, and the reality is that today is earlier than tomorrow!!  Unless you are dead right now, it’s not too late!

jon quote

We have all dealt with the negative comments from those around us.  Why do you want to do that? You’re too old to start again? You aren’t going to make any money doing that? Who is going to buy what you have?  You’ve done this kind of thing before so what makes you think this time it will work?

Did you know that 1 insult + 1,000 compliments = 1 insult?  That’s what we focus on, the 1 insult and the 1,000 compliments never stick with us.  (If only people understood how powerful their words are!!)   Do any of those sound familiar?  I’ve heard them from others and to be honest, I’ve also said them to myself.  The truth is that not everyone is going to understand our dream.  And that’s ok because it isn’t their dream to understand.  It is our dream and only we need to understand what we want and where we want to be.

Mobile Editing

Being a photographer, I am always looking for a way to edit the pictures that I take from my phone.  I have found several apps that I really like using and that I can do almost anything that I want to accomplish with.

Here are my top favs, what you can do with them and photo examples!

I have an Iphone but all of these apps are also available for Android.

AVIARY……Within this app you have the ability to crop, change the colors, brightness, exposure, add text, blur, add frames, correct red eye and my personal favorite, splash.

Here is a photo example of what splash looks like…

PICSART…….This app allows you to do a few different things.  You can change perspective, clone and stretch.  You can also add another photo to your existing photo, add clip art, lens flare and text.

I do not use this feature often because I actually forgot about it, but this is what the stretch affect looks like….

**I made my poor baby girl look like a camel**

REPIX…..Is a cool app for adding some special effects.  I use this mostly for adding an added touch to my photos.  It probably does a lot more but this is mainly what I use it for .

**This is a stock photo from my phone that I just added the effects to so you could see what kind of things you can do to add to your photos**

I create the photo in 1 app and then save it and open it up in one of the other apps to add whatever I want to it until I get the look that I was going for. There are also in app purchases that are cheap (usually about .99 cents) if you want to add different affects.

Here is a photo that I made recently for my facebook page….

**I used one of the apps to choose a background and add the picture.  Then I used another app to add the clip art and text.  Simple but it makes your pictures look fancier**

So there are my top 3 apps for editing your photos.  Download them and see what you can create!!!

Once again, thanks for reading!!!

It’s My Choice

Some of you may know that I am a distributor for Young Living Essential Oils.                                            If you didn’t know…well now you do!

I had such a huge oil win yesterday that I just have to share.

I woke up at 6 am (which by the way is far to early for me to be awake) and my first thought was “Oh no, I’m getting sick”. My second thought was “grab the oils”. So I got out of bed and grabbed all of my rollers.

Breathe Again on the sides of my nose to help me to be able to breathe through my nose,

RC on my chest to break up whatever was in my body causing me to wheeze,

Thieves on the bottom of my feet because it just protects me from EVERYTHING,

Allergy roller (peppermint, lavender & Lemon) behind my ears to combat the allergies I have………AND

Purification around my eyes to stop the itching!

Now, I know what you are thinking. “That’s a lot of oils to make you feel better!” Well for someone who knows the benefits of the oils and who doesn’t like to take medication (because you really don’t know what’s in that over the counter stuff) it’s the only option!

So you’re probably wondering what the outcome was!  Well, the oils worked of course, just like they always do. Within about 20 minutes I was breathing clearly, the wheezing had stopped and my eyes were no longer itching or red!!

I’ll take my oil wins over heading to the pharmacy any day!!

If you are looking at using oils to make your life better and healthier you can check out my website or email me. I’m not trying to sell you anything! You can keep taking the pharmacy meds if you want to. I’m just giving you a better way if you so choose.

I hope you have a great day and as always thanks for reading my blog!!
