How many times have we all thought that we were too old to start something new? Too old to dream a new dream? Too old to leave a job we hate and search for a new one that we would love? I still have those thoughts sometimes. What am I thinking? I’m too old to start something new! What if I don’t succeed? I wish I would have done this when I was younger. If you are honest, you will say ME!!
I just finished a book that has changed the way I’ve been thinking. The name of the book is “Start.” by Jon Acuff. If you are a reader then I recommend that you pick this book up! If you are not a reader then download the audible book.
If you’re 45 and looking for a career shift after realizing you don’t love what you do, you’re back in your 20’s. It’s time to start!! You don’t have to have everything figured out or a big elaborate plan in place. YOU JUST NEED TO START!! The starting line is the only line you completely control. Regretting that you didn’t start earlier is a great distraction from moving on your dream today, and the reality is that today is earlier than tomorrow!! Unless you are dead right now, it’s not too late!
We have all dealt with the negative comments from those around us. Why do you want to do that? You’re too old to start again? You aren’t going to make any money doing that? Who is going to buy what you have? You’ve done this kind of thing before so what makes you think this time it will work?
Did you know that 1 insult + 1,000 compliments = 1 insult? That’s what we focus on, the 1 insult and the 1,000 compliments never stick with us. (If only people understood how powerful their words are!!) Do any of those sound familiar? I’ve heard them from others and to be honest, I’ve also said them to myself. The truth is that not everyone is going to understand our dream. And that’s ok because it isn’t their dream to understand. It is our dream and only we need to understand what we want and where we want to be.
